Ballads of the Bushrangers


Day 1

Pick up at Albury Railway Station and transport to Tallangatta Motor Inn to enjoy a home-cooked dinner.

Day 2

Travel to Granya pioneer museum for an old fashion morning tea. Then onto the Murray River arm of Lake Hume crossing the lake on the little known Wymah ferry from here it off to Holbrook. Here we will take a guided tour of the interesting Submarine museum and have lunch in the park. Now in the heart of Mad Dog Morgan country we hear of the exploits of the notorious bushranger Dan Morgan. We visit the grave of one of his victims at Round Hill station. Then it off to explore his hide out an impressive rocky tore. From here it’s on to the original Ettamoga Pub for afternoon tea on our way back to Tallangatta.

Day 3 

Today we travel over a mountain range with views to the Snowy Mountains and Mt Kosciusko ( the highest mountain in Australia ) stopping at Corryong’s newly renovated pioneer museum for morning tea, after looking through the museum we travel to Tintaldra on the banks of the Upper Murray river . Here we will have a traditional pioneer lunch at the Old Tintaldra store. After lunch, we will travel to scenic Cudgewa and explore bluff falls. (weather permitting). We’ll have afternoon tea then continue back to the Tallangatta Motor Inn.

Day 4

Travel up the beautiful Mitta river valley to the Witches garden for morning tea. Here we will take a tour of the gardens which has the largest collection of medical plants in Australia. From here it off to Dartmouth to take on a local legend to tell us and show us the impressive Dartmouth dam which has the largest earthen dam wall in the southern hemisphere. From here it’s onto the Dartmouth hotel for lunch. Then back down the valley listening to stories of the escapades of the local bushrangers of the Omeo gang (Mitta Jack, Jimmy Lee and Bogong Jack). We will travel along the other side of the river viewing rich farm land and rugged mountains to Tallangatta to be greeted with a special mystery presentation.

Day 5

Today we travel to the Huon hill lookout with spectaliar views over Lake Hume and Albury/Wodonga. Here well will have morning tea before continuing onto the Jindera Pioneer museum to view a large collection of artefacts from a by-gone era. Next, it’s off to Howlong beside the Murray River for a picnic lunch. Then onto Rutherglen Australia’s premier wine region to visit a winery on our way back to Tallangatta Motor in for afternoon tea and a chance to wander down the main street to have a look at Tallangatta.

Day 6

Travel to the Chiltern Iron bark national park wayside stop for morning tea. Then it’s on to Glenrowan, the historic site of the infamous bushranger Ned Kelly’s Final Siege. There we enjoy an interactive theatrical production of Ned Kelly’s Last Stand at the tourist Centre. From here it’s off to the popular Beechworth Bakery for lunch. After lunch we have some time to explore Beechworth before heading to the old Beechworth court house where Ned Kelly was sentenced to participate in an amusing mock trial. When finished its back to the Motel via the old goldmining township of Yackandandah.

Day 7

After breakfast at the Tallangatta Motor Inn we say our farewell’s. The bus then takes you for a visit to the famous Peard’s Nursery Café before dropping you at the train station for your journey home!
